Buyers pay you directly through Stripe or PayPal, in a checkout with two steps. They don't need an account on your store.

The checkout

Buyers add products to the cart and click Checkout. Then:

  1. Contact: they enter their Email (where you send their downloads) and a Full name. The name is optional unless you ask for it. For physical items they also pick a country under Deliver to, and a delivery rate if you offer more than one.
  2. They click Continue to payment.
  3. Payment: they pay by card or with PayPal (see below).

The order summary shows the subtotal, any discount, shipping and the total. If you turn on the discount code box, buyers see Have a discount code? there.

The payment step

Buyers see one way to pay on top and, if you take both, the other under or. With both Stripe and PayPal connected, you choose which comes first: see Choose which comes first. Otherwise card payments come first.

  • Card: a Pay button with the total, for "Card, Apple Pay or Google Pay, on a secure page". Buyers pay on Stripe's page, then come straight back to your store. Which wallets show depends on what you turn on in Stripe. For a membership the button says Subscribe.
  • PayPal: PayPal's own button. Buyers pay with their PayPal balance or a card. PayPal isn't offered for memberships: those always go through Stripe.

If a buyer leaves Stripe's page before paying, nothing is charged and their cart is saved. If a payment shows in Stripe but the order still says Unpaid, write to us with the order number.

After paying, buyers see their order page. They also get a receipt by email when order emails are on. See What buyers get after they pay.

Free orders

When the cart total is 0, checkout has one step. Buyers enter their email and click Get it free. No card is needed, and they get their download link by email.

When no payments are connected

You can still give away free products and take payment requests. Buyers see that your store isn't taking online payments yet. They can add a message, like how they'd like to pay, and click Send payment request. Nothing is charged.

The order waits in Orders as Unpaid. Email the buyer how to pay. When the money arrives, open the order and click Mark as paid to record it. The buyer then gets their files and receipt by email. See Find and manage orders.
