Place a test order

A test order takes you through your checkout like a buyer, without a payment. You get a real order page with the files, course or keys, so you can check what buyers receive.

Place a test order

1. Sign in to your admin, then open your store in the same browser.
2. Add a product to the cart and go to checkout.
3. At the top of the checkout page you see Try your checkout: a test order goes through without a payment and isn't counted in payouts.
4. Fill in the form with the email address you sign in with.
5. Click Try a test order.

You can do this before you connect Stripe or PayPal. Only you and your team see the test line at checkout: buyers never do.

How test orders show

• In Orders, they have a Test pill. To see only them, set the Payment filter to Test orders.
• The order page says Test order: no money moved.
• Licence keys in a test order are test keys. They start with TEST and never use up a real key from your list.
• Test orders aren't counted in Analytics or in your products' sales numbers.
• A test order with a physical item shows up in Needs action, so you can try the shipping step.

Remove a test order

Open the order, click More actions (⋯) → Cancel order, then Yes, cancel it. No money moves. You don't have to: test orders stay out of your numbers either way.

There's no test mode for the whole store: buyers always see your normal checkout. To see what they get after paying, read What buyers get after they pay.
