Add tax to your prices
Set one tax rate, like VAT or sales tax, and choose whether it's added at checkout or already in your prices.
Open TaxesOn this page
Your store can charge one tax rate. It applies to your products and to delivery. You choose whether it's added on top of your prices at checkout or already included in them.
Set your tax rate
- In your admin, go to Settings. Next to Taxes, click Edit.
- Enter the Rate, %, for example 20. Leave it empty for no tax.
- Enter a Name. This is what customers see at checkout, like VAT or Sales tax. If you leave it empty, they see "Tax".
- Turn My prices already include it on or off:
- Off: the tax is added on top of your prices at checkout.
- On: your prices stay the same, and the tax is shown as part of them.
- Click Save.
The Settings page then shows your choice, like "20% added at checkout" or "20% included in prices".
What buyers see
When tax is added on top, checkout shows a line like "VAT (20%)" above the total. When it's included, checkout and the buyer's order page show a note like "Includes VAT (20%)" with the amount.
What Marketsy doesn't do
Marketsy adds the one rate you set. It doesn't work out tax by the buyer's country, and it doesn't file or pay tax for you. Which taxes you owe, and where, depends on where you and your buyers are. Check with a tax adviser if you're not sure.
