Sell a membership or subscription

A membership charges customers again and again until they cancel, from every day to every year. Any product that isn't charged Once is a subscription. Subscriptions are paid through Stripe.

Create a membership

1. In your admin, go to Products → All products and click Add product.
2. Name it and pick Membership.
3. Set the Price and how often it's Charged: Every day, Every week, Every month, Every 3 months or Every year.
4. Click Create draft.
5. On the Delivery tab, add what members get, like a link to a private page or group, files or a message.
6. Add a picture on Media, then click Publish.

A download or a course can be a subscription too: choose anything other than Once under Charged when you create it.

You need Stripe

PayPal doesn't do subscriptions. Until Stripe is connected, a subscription can't be published: the editor shows Connect Stripe instead of Publish. At checkout, PayPal isn't offered for a cart with a membership. See Connect Stripe.

Sale prices, pay what you want, quantities and versions aren't available on subscriptions.

How members pay and cancel

Stripe charges each member again on their renewal date. On their order page, buyers click Manage or cancel on Stripe to change their card or cancel. If a payment fails, Stripe tries again on its own, and the order says so.

Stop renewing or refund

Open the order from Orders, then click ⋯ More actions:

• Stop renewing: the customer isn't charged again. Until the paid period ends, Keep renewing switches it back on.
• Refund: refunds the unused part of the latest payment, worked out from the days left, and stops the membership. One-time items paid in the same payment aren't refunded. See Refund or cancel an order.

When a membership ends

When a member cancels or you stop renewing, Marketsy doesn't take back what the order delivered: its files and links stay on the buyer's order page. If members get ongoing access somewhere else, like a private group, remove ended members there yourself. A refund is different: it closes the order's downloads.
