Organise products with categories

Categories group your products. They show in your store's menu and as cards on your home page, in the order you set.

Add a category

1. In your admin, go to Products → Categories.
2. Click Add a category.
3. Give it a Name. Each category needs its own name.
4. Add a Description. It's used on the category page and in search results.
5. Click Add an image. It's used for the big category cards on your home page; wide pictures work best (2:1).
6. Click Add category.

Put products in a category

Open a product and pick a Category on the Details tab, then click Save. A product can be in more than one category. A product with no category still shows under All products.

Change the order

Drag a row by its handle on the Categories page, or use its ⋯ menu: Move up or Move down. Customers see your categories in this order on the home page, and in the menu.

The menu shows your first 5 categories until you set your own menu links. Then it shows only your links, and you can add a category there yourself. See Logo, menu and footer.

Edit a category

Click a category to open it, make your changes and click Save changes. The panel shows how many products it has and how many are published; See products lists them. From a row's ⋯ menu, View in store opens the category page.

Delete a category

A category that still has products can't be deleted. Move its products to another category first, then open it and click Delete category. Customers no longer see it in your menu.
