An upsell offers one more product to customers who have something in their cart, often with a small discount. It shows in the cart and at checkout.

Create an upsell

  1. In your admin, go to Marketing → Upsells and click New upsell.
  2. Add a Name (only you see it), a Heading (the offer's heading customers see) and a Text (one line on why it's worth it).
  3. Choose when it shows. Show it whatever is in the cart is on unless you turn it off. Turn it off to pick products under When the cart has: customers see the offer when one of these is in their cart.
  4. Pick the Products to offer. Products with versions show each version.
  5. If you picked products under When the cart has, choose What the offer does:
    • Add the offer to the cart: customers add it as an extra.
    • Swap for the offer (an upgrade): customers swap the item in their cart for the offer.
  6. Set the Discount, %. It's 10 unless you change it.
  7. Click Save.

What customers see

The offer shows as a card with your heading (or Special offer / Upgrade offer when you leave it empty), the product, its price after the discount, and a badge with the percent saved. The button says Add to my order, or Upgrade my order for an upgrade.

  • Customers see one offer at a time.
  • An offer isn't shown when its product is already in the cart.
  • The discount comes off what the product sells for: its sale price, when it has one.
  • Discount codes don't take money off an upsell offer.

Track and manage upsells

The list shows each upsell with what it's Shown with, and its Views, Sales and Revenue.

  • Edit changes an upsell.
  • Pause (in the ⋯ menu) stops showing it for now. A paused upsell has a Paused pill. Turn on brings it back.
  • Delete removes the upsell. Its stats go with it.
